INTRODUCTION
Don Falconer founded Falconer Engineering and Testing to
provide Fire Protection Engineering
Services and to apply his 32+ years
of experience in the fire protection and building construction industry. The first 11-1/2
of those years were with Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (ULC) where as Senior
Project Engineer Don was involved with conformity assessment and certification testing of construction
materials and most notably full-scale fire testing of building constructions.
At ULC Don also had opportunity to be directly involved with development of fire safety standards and
building codes.
 Don then spent 18-1/2 years as Technical
Manager with A/D Fire Protection Systems, a leading manufacturer of passive fire
protection products including firestopping materials, intumescent fire
resistive coatings for structural steel and sprayed fire resistive materials. At
A/D Fire, Don managed product development, testing and certification
activities, technical literature and marketing needs and technical support
activities. Don
also managed development and implementation of the company's ISO9001 quality management system.
Don continues to participate actively
with standards writing activities and industry
organizations including the ULC
Committee on Fire Tests, the National Research Council of Canada's Special
Interest Group on Suitable Acoustic and Fire Stop Technologies, ASTM E05 and E06, the National Fireproofing Contractors
Association and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers - Southern Ontario
Chapter. He is also a member of ASTM, ICC, NFPA, Professional Engineers Ontario,
the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE)
and the Canadian Fire Safety Association (CFSA).
