INTRODUCTION
Don Falconer founded Falconer Engineering and Testing
in 2008 to
provide Fire Protection Engineering
Services and to apply his 33+ years of experience in the fire protection
and building construction industry.
Don began his career
with Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (ULC) where for 11-1/2 years he was involved with
the testing and certification of
construction materials, most notably full-scale fire testing of building
constructions. At ULC Don also had opportunity to be directly involved with
development of fire safety standards and building codes.
 Don
then spent 18-1/2 years as Technical Manager with A/D Fire Protection Systems, a
leading manufacturer of passive fire protection products including firestopping
materials, intumescent fire resistive coatings for structural steel and sprayed
fire resistive materials. At A/D, Don managed product development,
testing and certification
activities, technical literature and marketing needs and technical support
activities. Don managed the development, implementation and operation of the company's
ISO9001 quality management system.
Don continues to participate actively
with standards writing activities and industry
organizations including the ULC
Committee on Fire Tests, the National Research Council of Canada's Special
Interest Group on Suitable Acoustic and Fire Stop Technologies, ASTM E05 and E06
and the National Fireproofing Contractors
Association. He is a member of ASTM, NFPA, Professional Engineers Ontario,
the Canadian Fire Safety Association (CFSA), the Society of Fire Protection
Engineers (SFPE) - Don is currently President of the Southern Ontario Chapter of
SFPE.
